I RALLIED FOR LIFE… NOW WHAT?

EDUCATE YOURSELF
One of the first things we all must do in order to be a successful pro-life advocate is to make sure we are educated on pro-life issues. Make sure you know what the different kinds of abortion procedures are and how they are performed. Be informed about the research conducted with regard to mental health, suicide, breast cancer and the physical effects of abortion. Know the facts about foetal development — being able to point out that the baby has a heartbeat, for example, at only 21 days can make a huge difference to someone who might believe the abortion industry’s claims that the baby is only a “clump of tissue”. The website www.prolifeinfo.ie has a mountain of information and lots of personal stories of those affected in some way by abortion.
BECOME A DISTRIBUTOR OF PRO-LIFE MATERIALS
Many people often don’t know the truth about the abortion industry and are often hungry for information. It is a tool to start conversations and make sure that people know the facts about abortion. By becoming a distributor, you will have that tool at your disposal to change hearts and minds, as well as hopefully save lives.
JOIN A STREET INFORMATION SESSION.
Be part of the change and pass your knowledge onto someone else. Street Information Sessions are held regularly around the country and it give people the opportunity to ask questions, get more information and advocate for life, in a very informal setting.
PARTICIPATE IN 40 DAYS FOR LIFE.
40 Days for Life first started in 2004, and since then, campaigns are held twice a year all over the world. Thousands upon thousands of lives have been saved over the years. Participants use prayer and fasting, peaceful vigils, and community outreach to make a difference in the fight to end abortion. There is a 40 Days for Life running in Dublin during March and Precious Life hold Lent for Life in the North of Ireland. Both initiatives are deserving of your support.
START A LOCAL PRO-LIFE ORGANISATION OR JOIN AN EXISTING ONE LIKE YOUTH DEFENCE, THE LIFE INSTITUTE OR PRECIOUS LIFE
If you want to make a difference in the fight for life, you have to start small — and that means making a difference in your own community. Start a pro-life organization at your school, church or university. You never know the lives you can save or the difference you might make.
SPEND ONE DAY A MONTH AT AN ABORTION REFERRAL AGENCY.
Often women are pressured into abortion by their parents or their partner. They think that they have no other choice — they can’t afford a baby, they’re in school, they worry they’ll lose their job. They have no idea that there is another option, that they do have a choice. And that is where sidewalk counselors come in. Reaching out to these women in crisis can mean, literally, the difference between life and death. And it can also spare the woman of a potential lifetime of pain and grief. You can work with Gianna Care, Precious Life, amongst others who offer counselling, support and practical help to mothers in crisis pregnancy.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTRE OR COUNSELING / SUPPORT SERVICES SUCH AS LIFE, GIANNA CARE, MAJELLA CENTRE AND OTHERS.
Giving women other options besides abortion is real pro-life activism with lasting results. You can sign up to counsel women if you’re qualified or you can make a donation — either a financial donation, or by donating goods like prams, high chairs, baby furniture, nappies, clothes, etc.
ATTEND THE ANNUAL RALLY FOR LIFE.
The first Saturday of July hosts the Rally for Life, alternatively held in Belfast and Dublin. Next year, it is back in Belfast. It is a great event that re-energises and motivates. Be there on 2 July 2018 @ Custom House Square, Belfast
JOIN DEMONSTRATIONS AND OTHER WITNESSES.
Activism sometimes requires us to venture into unfriendly territory. But it is imperative that we are visible and present on the high street trying to educate people about the truth of abortion and the abortion industry and counteracting the pro-abortion lies.
SPEAK OUT
The worst thing that we can do as pro-lifers is remain silent. Make your voice heard in 2017 and 2018. Whether it’s just having a casual conversation with a friend or family member, or sharing pro-life stories on social media, it is incredibly important to make sure that you are speaking out. Pro-lifers are very rarely given a voice in the pro-abortion media, so it is up to us to get out the facts. However you do it, speak up. Find your voice and use it. Millions of unborn children don’t have a voice, and it is up to us to speak for them.
MAKE SURE YOUR POLITICIANS LISTEN TO AND REPRESENT YOUR VIEWS
There could be a general election within the next 2 years. Whether you are someone who is ordinarily politically active or not, make 2017/8 a year to make your voice heard, in your local community. Take the time to do some research. Are the people representing you pro-life? If not, look at who is running against them and their position on abortion; if their opposition is pro-life, then consider helping their campaign. At the very least, make your position known at the ballot box.
